I don’t care what anybody says– Brandi Brandt was hotter than Tecmo Bowl!
It was 1989, and I was 14. All I had wanted for my birthday was a copy of Tecmo Bowl for Nintendo, and my parents got it for me. I immediately took it over to my best friend Steve’s house so we could play until the sun came up. At about 2 A.M., my interest in 8-bit video football would be forever changed. Something caught my eye from under the TV stand. It was Brandi Brandt on the cover of the October 1987 issue of Playboy. Steve had stolen it out of one of his older brothers’ rooms. I had seen pictures of naked chicks before, but somehow those Aborigines didn’t stack up to Brandi. Steve switched the game to 1-player mode once he realized I was already immersed in a serious relationship. The next morning, I asked him if I could borrow the issue for further review. He agreed to lend it to me as long as he could borrow Tecmo Bowl. Shit, he coulda borrowed MY DOG in exchange for Brandi!!
Over the next weeks and months, I learned eye-hand coordination that video games could never teach! Brandi lived in my closet and, for the most part, so did I. As time went on, Tecmo Bowl was rendered obsolete, but she wasn’t. I never even asked Steve to give my game back. I remember my mom saying, “I haven’t seen you in 3 days. You must really like that new game!”
I sure do, Mom. I sssuuurrre do!!
